The Philippines President Duterte has a short temperament when it comes to smuggling and he has shown his disagreement by crushing 76 exotic vehicles. A recently released video shows the President watching the bulldozers smashing the extremely expensive cars. The 76 cars were from famous brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Ford, and Lamborghini. The authorities have seized totally 800 vehicles in their operations.

Reports suggest that the value of all these vehicles amounts to $5.5 million. “I did this (destroyed illegally imported cars) because you have to show to the world that you have a viable place of investment and business,” Duterte said. “And the only way to show it is that you are productive and that you have the economy, to absorb the productivity of the population.”

It is unlikely that this violent move will affect smuggling, however, it will be reduced to an extent. The government has decided to continue the crushing. Duterte previously ordered the destruction of $1 million worth of cars. The government applies a 50 percent tax on any vehicle costing more than $77,000, which is why citizens take the shorter route of smuggling.
