The British sports car brand Prodrive plans to make an amphibious car in the near future. The Company chief, David Richards, is keen on attempting the build which will set new standards for the brand. The Watercar Panther which Richards bought on Thursday impressed him so much that he announced his own plans of building an amphibious vehicle.

The Watercar Panther is an amphibious vehicle that resembles the Jeep Wrangler. Richards was initially relying on importing this vehicle to Europe but he later changed plans after considering import restrictions and other regulations.

“We know about them, and I have some young engineers working on it—we’re all excited by it. I have a boat engineer looking at the hull,” Richards said.

According to a report published by Autocar, David Richards has asked his engineers to work on making an amphibious vehicle that would have significant ground clearance for the road and would be able to reach speeds of up to 30 knots in water. However, he agrees that getting the best of both worlds is not possible in this case. Prodrive can either make a good car or a great boat, but it cannot be both.

Reports suggest that this amphibious car will house a turbocharged diesel engine which would make immense torque. We do not have any news on the release date.
