The demand for electric vehicles is on the rise which has led tough competition between vehicle manufacturers. An American start-up by the name Rivian is joining the bandwagon by introducing a Rivian electric pickup truck and an SUV. The company spokeswoman, Kas Regas confirmed that the two vehicles will be displayed at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018.

The five-seater pickup named A1T will arrive by 2020 whereas the seven-seater SUV dubbed as A1C will follow shortly. Surprisingly, the company was initially founded by RJ Scaringe in 2009 to build a sports car. But when company officials saw a rising demand for electric vehicles in the market, they made a shift.

Although Rivian is a relatively new company, it has the backing and experience of a few veterans of the automobile industry. They have Tom Gale, the designer of Dodge Viper, and Antony Sherrif, who helped materialize McLaren’s street legal car dream.

The automaker allowed a few people from Engadget to visit their plant and take a peek at the Rivian electric pickup truck and SUV. The truck is reportedly similar to the Honda Ridgeline. The CEO revealed that the truck will be able to tolerate 3.6 feet of water, will have 14.0 inches of ground clearance, and will be able to climb steep hills with a 45-degree incline. The powerful EV pickup will rush from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and last for 450 miles while producing 800 hp. The top of the line model will cost $90,000 while the base model will cost $50,000 offering a 200-mile range.
