The Corvette Stingray hasn’t even hit dealerships yet but new details are starting to emerge about the Z06 replacement.
According to Car & Driver’s sources, the model will adopt the Z07 name to reflect that it is based on the seventh-generation Corvette. Rumors also suggest the car will come equipped with Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and larger Michelin tires.
There’s no word on what will power the Z07 but the magazine believes it will use a turbocharged or twin-turbocharged V8 that displaces “significantly less” than 6.2-liters. The current model has a 7.0-liter V8 that develops 505 bhp (376 kW), but new engine could have 600 bhp (447 kW) despite its smaller size. Regardless of the engine’s displacement and output, it could be connected exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.
If everything pans out, the Corvette Z07 could be introduced in early 2015 as a 2016 model.
