For the first time in a decade, Dubai International Airport will now charge more parking fee than before. Depending upon the area at the airport, which is one of the busiest in the world, car parking rates have generally increased from Dh5 to Dh10.
According to one spokesperson, “there has been a slight increase in our long-term [B car park] and short-term [A car park] rates — from Dh20 to Dh25, and Dh20 to Dh30”, respectively, for the first hour.”
According to Gulf News, motorists have been arguing that the airport charges them for a full hour even when they park for only a few minutes. An unhappy Dubai resident complains that despite the electronically monitored system, he was charged for a full hour when he had only parked for 20 minutes.
However, a representative at the Dubai International Airport claimed that they have decreased prices in all premium and long-term car parks in the face of inflation.
The spokesperson continued to explain that the increased car parking rates are justified by upgraded car parking facility at the airport following recent capital investment, which promises a better customer experience where customers will have access to multiple payment options.
“To further enhance customer experience, we are planning to expand the car park facility by constructing a new multistory car park to add approximately 3,500 spaces in the next couple of years”, he added.
Car park rates at Dubai International Airport are higher than Abu Dhabi International Airport as well as Sharjah International Airport.
