The new Ford Co-Pilot360 is an advanced suite of driver assistance and safety systems which is now launching as a standard feature on Ford vehicles.
The Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, active lane control, rear-backup camera and auto high-beaming light.
The first vehicles to get the Co-Pilot360 will be the upcoming 2019 Ford Edge and Edge ST. However, the automaker has mentioned that more than 90 percent of the vehicles it sells by 2020 will have the Co-Pilot360 System. Some Ford vehicles such as the F-150 and Fusion already offer a number of advanced safety amenities as found in this system but they are not available as a standard feature.
The automaker mentioned that the active safety features will be installed on the Ford F-150 trucks, however, the entire suite will not be offered on the heavy-duty and commercial vehicles. By the end of the decade, commercial vehicles including E-Series, F-650, and F-750 will have automatic emergency braking system but might not be equipped with the Co-Pilot360 system.
Ford is also planning to invest $500 million in the next five years in order to further develop its driver-assist and safety technologies.
