The Mazda MX-5 Miata with its impressive powertrain, low-weight body kit and superior handling is already a phenomenal sports car. Yet, the automaker plans to increase the power output of the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata, according to a report.

The report comes from Road and Track which states that Mazda has filed a document with NHTSA on February 27th mentioning the coupe will continue to use the same 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G drivetrain but the power output will get a bump from 155 horsepower to 181 horsepower.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata available in some international markets offers 162-horsepower but pushing that number to 181 horsepower means the automaker might be adding some serious upgrades such as new intake manifolds, camshafts, and more.

The folks at Road and Track also approached Mazda officials for their comments but the manufacturer declined to reveal any information.

The current 2018 MX-5 in the UAE carries a 2.0-liter, in-line 4 cylinder engine paired with a 6-Speed SKYACTIV transmission and develops 160 hp and 200 Nm of torque. The price starts from AED 141,750.

No information is currently known regarding the debut of the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata.
