Nissan brand will receive 4 EVs while its luxury sub-brand Infiniti will get 2 fully electric vehicles over the course of next 5 years. According to a report by Automotive News, who got to know through Nissan’s vice president for powertrain and EV engineering Toshihiro Hirai, these six all-electric vehicles from Nissan and Infiniti will be part of Nissan’s share of 12 EVs that they plan to deliver by 2022. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance was formed last year in September and will be headed by Carles Ghosn.

These 6 electric vehicles will not feature Nissan’s hybrid technology e-Power, rather they will be fully-electric. At present, the only vehicle available by Nissan to host the e-Power system is the 2017 Note, which will soon make its way to the U.S. markets after resounding success in Japan. The e-Power hybrid technology works as a range-extender that facilitates the electric motor by providing power from a small gasoline engine.

Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa has brighter plans for the future. At the 2018 Detroit Show last month, Hiroto declared that Infiniti, starting from 2021, will completely evolve into an all-electric brand. The company will roll out vehicles in the future that will either employ the e-Power system or will be fully electric.
