The Japanese automaker Nissan has recently jumped into the energy storage business following the footsteps of other car makers such as Tesla and Mercedes. Dubbed as Nissan Energy Solar, the solution was introduced at the Electric Ecosystem Experience conference held in the Canary Islands on Thursday last week. The system allows users to easily store the energy produced by the solar panels and manage it.
Earlier, with conventional solar-powered systems, consumers had to channel excess energy produced into the electricity grid at low rates. But now they can install the new systems at home as they are cheaper and more efficient now, store the energy and use it later at night when the tariffs are high. Nissan also believes that stored energy could be used to charge electric cars.
The Nissan Energy Solar system includes both the panels and the battery storage. To handle this technology, Nissan has introduced an energy management system that allows users to decide how and when to use the excess energy, thus making energy conservation with this system much more efficient.
Currently, this new technology by Nissan is only accessible in the United Kingdom at an affordable price of $5,380. Nissan claims the UK residents can minimize their electricity bills by 66 percent.
