Reports indicate the new Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 is arriving next year about which the automaker claimed that it will be the most powerful yet.
The news was revealed by Ford officials at the North American International Auto Show currently taking place in Detroit. No prototype was present at the show but a small video was shown giving some tidbits about a new high-performance model that will slot above the GT350.
No information has been disclosed regarding the powertrain but there are reports the 2019 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 will carry a potent 5.2-liter V8 engine which will deliver up to 700+ horsepower. The engine will most likely be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the top speed is rumored to be around 200 mph.
The official word suggests that the GT500 will be twice more powerful compared to the original 1967 Shelby Mustang which was good for 355 horsepower.
With a 700+ horsepower Mustang, Ford is directly targeting sports cars such as Chevrolet Corvette ZL1 offering 650 hp and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat carrying a remarkable 6.2-liter V8 engine developing 707-horsepower.
More details will be uncovered in the coming months.
