Dubai will have free parking for electric cars this year with 220 slots already reserved by the RTA. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the initiative is part of a national program to raise awareness amongst residents regarding the use of green modes of transport.

Authorities will ensure that there are free parking slots for EVs in all the paid parking zones in Dubai. A fine of $1,000 will be levied on offenders occupying the clearly labeled EV parking slots and misuse it in any way.

The two-phase initiative has already seen the completion of 70 slots allocated at various points including the Sheikh Zayed Road. In the first phase, 40 locations have been reserved for EVs.

Green Mobility is UAE’s initiative to expand into a greener economy and Dubai has followed by launching many programs to meet this ambitious goal. The rewards of adopting EVs also include free registration and free annual renewal apart from free parking slots.
