The world’s first Hyundai panoramic sunroof airbag has been developed in collaboration with the automaker’s parts supplier firm Hyundai Mobis. The new airbag is designed for all vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof to protect drivers and passengers in case of a car crash.
The protective accessory deploys as soon as a rollover is detected, inflating within 0.08s from the sunroof’s back to the front regardless of the sunroof being close or pulled back. Hyundai has been a proud owner of 6 of the 15 latest IIHS Top Safety Pick+ vehicles.
According to the Korean automaker, a rollover may result in the passenger’s head and other body parts ending up the sunroof smashing through the glass leading to fatal injuries and health concerns. The new panoramic sunroof airbag by Hyundai is aimed at preventing vital limb and head injuries during such incidents and ensuring a safe ride.
The automaker claimed during the announcement that their tests reveal airbag minimizes critical and minor injuries. Although Hyundai did not announce when they will feature the airbag in their vehicles, we believe the facility will be a part of high-end and high-performance vehicles from Genesis.
