Downtown Dubai is a popular destination for thousands of people who want to attend the New Year celebrations in a spectacular fashion. Expecting so many visitors, Dubai police plan for New Year has been shared to ensure everyone has a fun and safe night out.
The main attractions are the Burj Khalifa that features an astounding fireworks display every year, and festivities at the world’s largest mall. The Dubai Fountain also stages a great show. The theme of this year has been announced as “Light Up 2018” by Emaar.
The Dubai Police plan for New Year is a comprehensive strategy involving nine teams and six supporting teams to control and manage the movement of public and private vehicles. There will also be a fleet of 190 ambulances accessible, 23 near Burj Khalifa, and 8 within Dubai Mall area. These will be available from 2 pm until the end of the event.
Some of the measures include a restriction on taxi pickups, and only drop-offs will be allowed since taxis won’t be permitted after 8 pm in the Downtown area. The event will begin at 5 pm, and police have advised everyone to be on time.
There is also a free bus service that starts at various downtown locations. The 177 shuttles will be running around the clock to take people to and from Dubai Mall. Many roads will be closed in the area to avoid congestion allowing only designated vehicles. For pedestrians, special routes have been designated with three exits: Dubai Water Canal Walkway and two other exits onto Shaikh Zayed Road.
An app has also been introduced, called the Event Security Committee App, to guide people to amenities like ATMs, food venues, as well as the location of parked cars.
Moreover, there are greater options for parking available this year with additional 4,000 spots at Al Wasl Club, Jafiliya Metro Station, Dubai Water Canal and Musallah Al Eid in Mankhool. This is done to manage parking issues.
