BMW’s modular UKL front-wheel drive platform will allegedly be the basis for the Z2 which is being considered as a spiritual successor of the Z3.

As most of you know by now, UKL will be used for the all-new MINI and five/seven-seat versions of the 1-Series GT. It will also underpin the next generation of the 1-Series, X1 and a three-door coupe-like version of the X1 which will receive the X2 moniker.

Chances are it will also be the foundation for a front-wheel drive Z2 featuring just about the same proportions as the Z3. Due in 2016, the BMW Z2 will be available with turbocharged 3-cylinder, 1.5-liter and 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engines. The most powerful version is rumored to offer 300 bhp (224 kW) while the most frugal version will be equipped with a 3-cylinder diesel emitting less than 100 g/km of CO2.

Pricing of the 2016 BMW Z2 is expected to kick off from a little overĀ  31,000 USD or 23,300 EUR.
