Reports indicate the Japanese automaker is working on a new Nissan SUV, which will serve as the successor to the Nissan Xtrerra. Supposedly, it will make its debut next year at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

A new Nissan SUV, based on the NP300 Navara pickup truck, has already been caught test driving and the Nissan’s global head of commercial vehicles, Ashwani Gupta, has officially confirmed that it will be introduced next year. When asked regarding any chances of a seven-seater variant of the Navara, Ashwani told that Nissan will stay “extremely competent on frame-based vehicles” and will “cover each and every segment of the frame”.

Although no further details have been revealed it is highly likely that the new Nissan SUV will be sold as the successor to Xterra, which was discontinued in 2015. Under the hood, the new SUV might use the diesel engine showcased in the ‘Cummins powered Nissan Frontier Concept’. If not, we can expect the standard four-cylinder engine along with an optional V6 unit.

Nissan has also confirmed its plans to launch the next-gen Nissan Frontier pickup. It will be built at the company’s facility in Canton, Mississippi, alongside the Nissan Titan pickup.
