The spy photographers have caught a shrunken Mercedes G-Class resembling SUV on the road, which is believed to be the next-gen Suzuki Jimny. A few months back, Suzuki officials confirmed that the new Jimny is in works that would arrive soon with phenomenal off-roading capabilities and toughness.

Although the spied Jimny prototype was heavily camouflaged, we can still make out something about the shape. It adopts an upright boxy structure with an increased ride height and large tires hinting of its off-road character.

On the inside, the next-gen Suzuki Jimny is expected to boast significant enhancements including a large infotainment display with possibly Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Not much is known about the powertrain except that the new Jimny will be built on a ladder-on-frame chassis replacing the monocoque structure. It is also likely to use new and improved all-wheel drive system for better performance. Reports indicate the engine options might include a 1.0-liter BoosterJet turbocharged petrol or a 1.2L unit.

Besides the spy shots, the leaked images from Suzuki product roadmap provide an undisguised image of the Suzuki Jimny featuring round headlights and a straightforward front grille with vertical slats.

More details regarding the new Suzuki Jimny will be uncovered soon, as we expect it to officially debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
