Two years back at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the Korean automaker displayed Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup concept. It was termed as a ‘crossover truck’, since it was a pickup truck based on the Hyundai Santa Fe crossover. With no real hint of going into production, we were not sure of its faith. But now we are! The automaker has finally confirmed that a production version of the pickup will be launched soon in the U.S. markets.
According to Reuters, a top U.S. executive for Hyundai stated that the automaker plans to broaden its lineup in the United States by launching a pickup truck by 2020. The official has also confirmed that a new small SUV, Kona will be launched in the United States later this year, while three more refreshed SUVs will be introduced by the end of the decade.
The concept presented in 2015 had a unique design, which was almost a blend of the regular Santa Fe crossover with a pickup truck. Hyundai has not mentioned anything regarding the design of the production version, so we are not sure whether it will resemble the concept or not. The concept was powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine, which will most likely be replaced by a more powerful unit.
Hyundai is expected to disclose more information about the Hyundai Santa Cruz truck in the coming weeks.
