Nissan’s Nismo GT-R will take the crown for fastest accelerating production vehicle when it debuts later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Touted as the “fastest GT-R ever” by Nissan, Auto Express has shed some light on just how quick the Nismo version of the supercar will be. Citing inside Nissan sources, the UK magazine says the Nismo GT-R will be able to accelerate from 0-100 in a blistering 2.0 seconds.

If true, that two-second run to 100 would make the Nismo GT-R the world’s fastest production vehicle, beating out other extreme machines like the Ariel Atom and Bugatti Veyron.

In order to achieve those eye-popping figures, Nissan is developing the Nismo GT-R with the help of Williams Advanced Engineering.

“You’d be surprised at how much room for improvement there is – even with a car like the GT-R,” a Williams engineer told Auto Express. “Where you expect it’s all been tuned to the maximum, it’s actually easy to make big gains.”

In addition to more power, the Nismo GT-R is also expected to arrive with a lighter curb weight.

When the 2015 Nismo GT-R arrives in dealer showrooms, look for the car to carry a sticker price of about $150,000.
