Global warming is roaring loudly all around the world with extreme and unusual temperatures. To curb the rising pollution in the UK, the government has decided to ban sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040. The news came soon after France planned for the same ban.

“Today we are confirming that there should be no new diesel or petrol vehicles by 2040,” environment minister Michael Gove said on Wednesday. The United Kingdom would though allow hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which use an internal combustion engine. The minister hopes, this move will help them eliminate all combustion engine powered vehicles by 2050.

The environment minister of France, Nicolas Hulot announced the ban on sale of petrol and diesel vehicles in the first week of July. Other European countries including Germany, Netherlands and Norway are also contemplating on this idea. China on the other hand has not pledged anything similar and is thinking to use other means to restrict the use of combustion engine powered vehicles.

To aid in this transition, the government will offer funding and implement new laws to restrict the use of traditional cars.

In the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, wants driverless transport to account for 25 per cent of journeys in the emirate by 2030. The government is also offering incentives on buying zero-emission cars.
