The Volkswagen Emission scandal was caught in 2015 and just recently, another individual has been taken into custody by the U.S. government who is believed to be a part of the wrongdoing. We are talking about former Audi manager Giovanni Pamio, who has been charged for cheating on the diesel emission test and violated the United States Clean Air Act.
According to the United States Justice Department, the Audi Manager asked the company’s employees to design the ‘defeat device software’ through which the Environmental Protection Agency emission tests could be cheated. The report released by Justice Department states that Audi Manager Giovanni Pamio realized that it would be difficult to meet the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards, that’s why he along with his team resorted to use unfair means and provide forged information to US regulators.
Tests conducted by various third parties concluded that some of the diesel-powered VW cars including Audis produced different emission output when tested in real-world condition and under laboratory condition.
In the past, several Volkswagen Executives were arrested and charged with criminal offenses. As for the Volkswagen, the company has agreed to pay over 4.3 billion dollars in penalty and also offered to buy back about 500,000 vehicles already sold in the market. We also learned previously that claims payout could exceed $10 Billion.
