The 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer facelifted model was first displayed in the concept form back in March, 2016 at the Bangkok Motor Show. The production model was showcased shortly after that in Brazil, but it arrived in the UAE in the fall of last year.

For UAE markets, the 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer is available in four trim levels namely – LT (2WD and 4WD), LT Z71 (4WD), LTZ (2WD and 4WD) and LTZ Z71 (4WD). We got the chance to test drive the range-topping Trailblazer LTZ grade and below are our findings.

2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer Review

Walk Around the 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer

On the first look, you will clearly notice the sophisticated and stylish detailing on the 2017 Trailblazer. A lot of chrome elements can be seen on the outside such as chrome plated door handles, side mirrors, roof rails and trunk handle. Upfront, the 2017 Trailblazer features an updated fascia with a new dual-port grille along with sleek headlamps and daytime running lights. The front fenders have been upgraded as well to support the new lights. The wheels are 18 inch alloys, which add to the bulky look of the SUV.

Cockpit Impression

Let’s have a look at the trunk space before getting inside the vehicle. The storage space is quite generous and can easily accommodate different items including groceries, sporting equipment, luggage etc. The second-row seats can be split folded at 60/40, while the third-row seats split 50/50 to maximize the storage capacity.

In terms of passenger space, the second row does not offer adequate legroom. However, the leather seats are beautifully designed and offer maximum comfort.

The cockpit features a newly-designed front dash with premium soft-touch materials, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with mounted controls, HD display and other technologies.

Engine Options

The 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer is available in three engine options:

  • The 2.5L four-cylinder with 120 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5L unit delivers 132 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque
  • The 2.8L four-cylinder mill cranking out 144 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque
  • The range-topping 3.6L VVT unit churning out 275 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque

The engines can be paired to either 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission system.

Driving Dynamics

We test drove the range-topping LTZ trim carrying the 3.6L engine, and it really impressed us with its spectacular driving capabilities. Despite being a heavyweight SUV, the Trailblazer ensures ideal aerodynamics and offers a superior drive on highways. The 6-speed automatic transmission system renders smooth gear-shifting, and also gives the driver an option to manually switch gears for an improved driving experience. The facelifted Trailblazer is fitted with a Instatrac 4WD control, which guarantees a sleek drive on rough landscapes by intelligently managing the torque distribution.

We hit full throttle and reached 100 km/h in about 9 seconds and removed the foot from the accelerator when it reached its highest speed of 200 km/h. It consumed around 12.2 liters of fuel to cover 100 km distance during our test drive.

Technological Features

The 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer is equipped with a number of high-end technological features including MyLink Touch screen infotainment system with embedded navigation unit, on-board computer, 7-speaker audio system with AUX input, voice commands, hands-free calling, USB ports and smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay.

Safety

The 2017 Trailblazer also features a number of advanced safety features such as 4-wheel ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Panic Brake Assist (PBA), Traction Control, Hill Descent Control, Airbags, Front Parking Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Rear-cross Traffic Alert and more.
