Dubai Police has introduced world’s first robot policeman boasting multiple capabilities such as greeting people, shake hands, recognize gestures, detect facial expression and a person’s emotions, change his own expression, patrolling the streets to identify and find offenders, broadcast live video feeds, ability to map the insides of a building and navigate its path robotically through its self-control and drive feature, convey and converse in six languages, including Arabic, English and more, interact, respond to public queries, offer a military salute and so on. With so many abilities, the world’s first robot policeman makes Dubai a global leader in smart cities technology adoption.

The world’s first operational robot policeman was unveiled on Sunday during the opening of the 4th Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC). Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Head of Security for the Emirate of Dubai inaugurated the Expo at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). Today will be the last day of GISEC.

Let’s take a look at the world’s first operational robot policeman. It is 170 centimeters tall, 100 kilograms heavy, and can detect hand signals from up to 1.5 meters away.

“With an aim to assist and help people in the malls or on the streets, the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels,” said Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director-General of Smart Services at Dubai Police.

“Robots and autonomous machines are shaping and redefining our future and transforming the way we function. Technological advancements are enabling robots to talk, see, feel and react to objects and humans. The age of the robots is no longer coming – it has arrived,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, DWTC.
