BMW CEO Harald Krueger has made it public at the annual general meeting in Munich that the new BMW 8-Series Coupe will make its debut next year.

Since the announcement is very fresh, not much is currently known about the car except it will be a coupe featuring a lot of luxurious details. The automaker has also released a concept image giving a hint how the new 8-Series will look like.

The standard 8-Series model will be a coupe, however a convertible and a fast-back sedan will also join the lineup later. The prototype has already been caught earlier this year testing somewhere in a snowy region.

The new BMW 8-Series will replace the 6-Series. It will ride on the BMW carbon fiber-infused CLAR design platform, which will ensure a low curb weight as well as provide support for electric powertrains. With all the latest luxury features including the next-generation gesture control, it is believed that the new 8-Series will carry a hefty price tag.

The 8-Series concept model will be previewed by the automaker at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which will start on May 26. More details about the new 8-series will be disclosed at the event.
