Dubai Police’s road safety campaign and motivational programs have yielded some impressive results in 2017 bringing down road fatalities in Dubai by an impressive 26%. Last year, Dubai Police recorded 198 deaths, which was an increase of 19% compared to 2015. However, this year things look promising. In the first quarter of 2017, road accidents claimed 48 lives compared to 65 during the first quarter of 2016.

According to Assistant Commander In-Chief Dubai Police, we are still far away from achieving an ambitious goal of 3 deaths per 100,000 people, but this double digit drop in road fatalities in Dubai is a good step forward. He further added that Dubai Police has taken different initiatives like public awareness campaigns, increased patrolling and use of high-end equipment to tackle defiant drivers and curb fatality rate.

He also said that we are activating new traffic law from July with stiffened fines, black points and penalties to further drop traffic accidents and death toll. Under new regulations, fines can go as high as AED 3,000 and vehicles can be impounded for 90 days.

He added that making roads safer is a herculean task for Dubai police and they need support of community and allied departments in further dropping road fatalities in Dubai.
