The modified Toyota Land Cruiser which made its debut last year in Las Vegas at the 2016 SEMA Auto Show has set a new top speed record, which makes it the World’s Fastest SUV.
Powered by a spectacular 5.7L V8 engine which is capable of producing up to 2,000 horsepower, the modified Toyota Land Cruiser hit 230.02 mph (370.47 km/h) along the 2.5-mile long race track.
The Land Cruiser was driven by the former NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards and it took him two attempts to set the new top speed record. The 5.7L V8 engine on a regular Land Cruiser generates 381 horsepower, however with the addition of two turbochargers, the V8 unit was able to deliver the power of 2,000 horses. A wider set of tyres as well as revised suspension system was also added to reduce the drag on the SUV.
The official test driver of Toyota, Craig Stanton said that additional adjustments were made to the Land Cruiser, which not only improved the SUV’s acceleration, but also enhanced the overall stability.
Although Toyota claims its modified Land Cruiser is the fastest SUV in the world, but it is still unofficial. Currently, the official title of the World’s Fastest SUV belongs to the Bentley Bentayga.
