The Mercedes-AMG GT concept was first unveiled by the automaker at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and now confirmed reports suggest it is heading for production.

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a 4-door sports car which will compete against the upcoming Porsche Panamera. Talking to Automotive News, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers stated that the AMG GT production model will arrive in 2018 and a plug-in hybrid version will join the lineup too, featuring the EQ Power+ electrified technology.

There is no word about the powertrain yet, but we know the concept was powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine mated to electric motors and powerful lightweight batteries. The overall system was capable of developing 805 horsepower. According to the automaker, the AMG GT concept could hit the 60 mph in under three seconds.

Moreover, the Mercedes-AMG GT concept featured a host of latest technologies inspired from the AMG GT R such as cameras instead of side mirrors, three-dimensional animated headlights and a high-end infotainment system.

The whole body of the concept was made of carbon fiber, which not only provided a sleek look to the AMG GT but also worked to improve the aerodynamics, thus maximizing the performance.

We cannot confirm at the moment when the AMG GT will arrive here in the UAE. The automaker may reveal its plans on the launch event.
