Seat’s newly-appointed chairman, Jurgen Stackmann, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to offer a crossover.
Speaking to Auto Express, Stackmann said a crossover is one of his top priorities. While he declined to go into specifics, the magazine is reporting the model will ride on the MQB platform and could be launched as early as next year.
The crossover is expected to be about the same size as the Volkswagen Tiguan and feature styling inspired by the IBX concept.
The model is expected to be followed by a second crossover in 2016. This particular model is expected to be based on the Volkswagen Taigun which was previewed by a concept at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show.
Unfortunately, Seat’s push to increase sales won’t include sports cars. As Stackmann explained, “Seat is not a manufacturer of sports cars, it’s not a niche manufacturer.”
