The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police are considering reducing speed limit on Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

The possibility was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between top officials of RTA and Dubai police. It mainly focused on increasing the security of people by developing projects related to traffic control.

Mattar Al Tayyer- Director General and Chairman of Board of Directors at RTA said that Dubai Police and RTA are two major government organizations with common goals, so they should collaborate with each other to provide commuters a safe transport system.

Al Marri – the Commander in Chief Dubai Police assured RTA of its full cooperation. He further acknowledged that such meetings serve best in developing better integrated services for the benefit of society.

The meeting also focused on managing traffic accidents and reducing the time it takes to bring traffic back to normal.  RTA will provide logistic help by opening alternative roads and including traffic diversions.

The plan is an effort by Dubai government to reduce parallel traffic and road calamities by reducing speed limit from 120 km/h to 110 km/h and resetting the radar at 131 km/h.

Further plans like Route 2020 projects, Enterprise Command and Control Center Project, restoring tram service in Dubai and parking of heavy vehicles in restricted areas were also discussed during the meeting.
