The regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) announced the free charging of electric vehicles on Wednesday. According to DSOA, individuals can get their cars charged free of cost from 22nd March till the end of the year. The cars can be charged any time within their premises.

To decrease carbon emissions and promote green environment, Dubai Government has been working for quite some time now. Introduction of electric cars and installation of electric stations are part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy to make the city with the least carbon emissions in the world by 2050.

DSO has already three stations installed on its premises. Each station can charge up to two vehicles at a time. DSO aims to 4 more electric charging stations by 2018 including Green Chargers. The stations remain open 24/7 so that people can take maximum advantage and get their cars charged free of cost.

Engineer Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Smart City at DSOA said that they are putting their maximum efforts to pursue their vision to transform Dubai into an environment-friendly city by reducing its carbon footprints. He further added that DSO will continue to take such initiatives to raise awareness about the sustainability among general public.

DSO had already outdone its goal of reducing cumulative energy consumption by 31% through several programs and initiatives. The goal is to encourage people to buy and rent electric vehicles to reduce fuel emission and produce a more clean and healthy environment.
