Audi has revealed its plans to introduce three electric vehicles by 2020 and one of these models, which will be an electric sport coupe, will go head to head with the BMW i8.

Audi has already confirmed its plan to introduce the E-tron Quattro electric crossover and has also showcased the vehicle in concept form in 2015 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It is reported to have a range of 300 miles. The batteries could be recharged for 250 miles in just half an hour through the 350 kW charger. The production model is expected to hit the market sometime next year.

Following the debut of the crossover, Audi will launch an electric sport coupe, which will compete against the BMW i8. According to the Audi Chief, Rupert Stadler, the electric sport coupe will sport a “very emotional shape” and will be based on the same platform as the crossover.

The third model will be a smaller mainstream car riding on the Volkswagen flat-floor MEB platform. It will feature electric motors fitted both on the front and rear wheels for the Quattro drive.

We do not have more details about the cars yet, but stay tuned as the automaker is expected to release more information in the coming weeks.
