This year at the Geneva Auto Show, we did not only see luxurious supercars making their debut, but there were also some mainstream vehicles. One of them was the 2017 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, which is scheduled to go on sale later this year in the U.S.

The 2017 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid carries a 1.6L four-cylinder engine paired with an 8.9 kWh battery pack. The engine develops up to 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. NEDC states that the Niro Plug-in Hybrid’s electric range is 34 miles, but we expect it to be somewhat closer to 24 miles as per U.S. test cycle.

Design wise, the Niro crossover boasts a new satin chrome grille surround along with chrome trim on the front and rear bumpers. Additionally, it features new 16-inch wheels, full LED headlamps and exclusive “Eco Plug-in” badges.

The cabin offers a choice between black leather and a two-tone light grey and black leather upholstery. The front dash incorporates a latest eight-inch touch screen display, while the cockpit includes a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster.

The performance statistics show that the 2017 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid reaches 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 10.8 seconds, which makes it 0.7 seconds quicker that the regular Niro Hybrid.

The new Niro also renders state-of-the-art safety facilities including lane assist, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), driver attention warning, smart cruise control, blind spot alert and more.

The automaker still did not reveal if they have plans to bring Niro in the UAE.
