Toyota has introduced the Yaris-based rally at the 2017 Geneva auto show. Codenamed Yaris GRMN (Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring) is the first performance oriented racing car to join the Toyota’s GRMN division.

The subcompact hatch back houses a supercharged 1.8-liter inline-4 churning out 205 horsepower. The drivetrain is 6-speed manual channeled to the front wheels. The new Toyota Yaris GRMN encompasses an aero kit, updated wheels, tires and brakes. It has been made to race, therefore comes with shorter, stiffer spring for a lower ride height. The performance statistics are still not revealed by the Japanese automaker.

Inside we find a Gazoo Racing-branded bucket seats, a sports steering wheel borrowed from the 86, and an aluminum shifter and pedal kit.

Competing against the Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Polo GTI, the Yaris GRMN is made to boost the performance image of Toyota’s road cars. Other than competing in World Rally Championship, it will also compete in NASCAR, Super GT and the World Endurance Championship.

We still have no report if it will come to UAE or not. Seeing the rarity of hot hatches in the UAE and considering it has a supercharged engine, its entry to the GCC market would be a lovely addition.
