H.H Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has released Directive 01 of 2017, which requires the approval of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for founding and installing electric vehicle charging stations in Dubai.

This directive instructs all private and public entities to get approval from DEWA before installing, maintaining or operating an EV charging station in Dubai. DEWA will collaborate closely with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality to ensure that electric vehicle charging stations match the required technical standards.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy, stated that this initiative supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 that will make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.

Ahmad Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy stated the percentage of electric and hybrid vehicles in Dubai will rise 2% by 2020 and 10% in 2030.According to ConstructionWeekOnline, he clarified that the electricity tariffs at the charging stations will be decided by the Government of Dubai.

DEWA has established 100 electric vehicles charging stations in Dubai so far, which include locations like shopping malls, hotels, parking areas, Dubai Airport, patrol stations and so on.
