Dubai Police has set up almost 500 flashing mobile radars across Dubai. These friendly radars flash those drivers who try to exceed the road speed limit without fining them. Their purpose is to warn the speeding drivers, so they can avoid road accidents.
Backing up the importance of mobile radars, Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafeen (Head of Federal Traffic Council and Assistant to Dubai Police Chief for Operation Affairs) said that these flashing mobile radars are only used to alert people of their speed, but some people complained that they had been flashed even when they were below maximum speed limits. Al Zafeen said that these radars shouldn’t bother people who abide by the traffic rules and they do not fine you.
Last year, 60% of the accidents were caused due to careless driving, sudden swerving and tailgating vehicles. Careless driving caused 41 fatalities and 258 injuries, sudden swerving triggered 36 fatalities and 435 injuries, whereas tailgating brought about 36 fatalities and 306 injuries.
Al Zafeen also pointed out a surprising fact that the drivers most responsible for these accidents were of ages between 28 and 38 rather than young immature drivers. These statistics confirm age is not the only factor concerning rash driving. Making use of such surveys, Dubai Police takes effective measures to spread awareness about road safety.
