Gulf News Fun Drive will be a memorable adventure for newcomers and experts alike, promised by the route director of this annual event, John Spiller. The 36th overnighter fun drive journey will take place on 13th and 14th of January.
This 240 km expedition will be held in the Western region in Liwa. Starting the ride from Al-Fathiya on Hameem Road and ending at a camp in the amazing Moreeb Dune in Liwa Region, over 3,000 participants in 800 cars will compete. A roughly seven hours drive of this trail will be 55% sand and 45% tarmac.
As the date of Gulf News Fun Drive draws near, Spiller ensures the participants to have guaranteed adventure. The route has been planned not only to thrill beginners, but also to live up to the expectations of experts.
He adds, “Last year we found what I think is really the basis of a good route and we have largely stuck to that while keeping the beauty of the open desert intact.” The troubling spots have been discarded from the route to avoid inconvenience.
