The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia lineup has not arrived at the dealerships yet, and already rumors are surfacing that the Italian automaker is planning to launch an additional model, which will slot between the base/Ti variant and the Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The news originally comes from a source in Netherland and was later confirmed by Auto Evolution. The Alfa Romeo Giulia mid-level model will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine which will make 350 horsepower. This engine will be mated to an automatic gearbox and it will be an all-wheel drive variant. In comparison, the base model Giulia will be equipped with a 2.0L turbo-engine generating 280 horsepower and will be available with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configuration, whereas the Quadrifoglio will house a 350 horsepower engine with rear-wheel drive layout.
The report from Auto Evolution also suggests that a manual transmission variant of the Quadrifoglio will be launched in the U.S. It already exists in the international markets, but was never offered in the U.S.
Introducing a mid-level Alfa Romeo Giulia model means that the automaker will be competing against the rivals including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac. We would most probably receive more information from the automaker in the coming months.
