A report from Autocar has surfaced suggesting the new Mercedes-Benz SL roadster will share its components and platform with the AMG GT.

The report further states the new Mercedes-Benz SL roadster, which is scheduled to arrive in 2019, will be built by the AMG Division adopting the same platform as available in the GT coupe and roadster. The body will make use of aluminum and carbon fiber elements to keep the curb weight low and maximize the performance.

Moreover, the Mercedes-Benz SL roadster will be equipped with a soft-top roof instead of a metal hard top, which will also help in reducing the overall weight of the car. The front-longitudinal engine and the rear transaxle layout are also similar to the AMG GT model. The suspension system will be an enhanced version of the aluminum double wishbone suspension, while a multi-chamber air suspension system will be available as an option.

The report further suggests the SL will be available in four engine options, which include twin turbocharged units with 402 and 450 horsepower, a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with 470 horsepower and a range topping turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 generating 603 horsepower.
