Talking to a German newspaper, Stuttgarter Zeitung, Daimler revealed the company is planning to invest around $11 billion to expand its electric car range. The head of Daimler’s research and development department, Thomas Weber says they will introduce no less than 10 electric cars by 2025, out of which 3 will join the Smart line-up, while the rest will be added to the Mercedes-Benz line-up. Reports also suggest that some of the cars will be sold under the new EQ brand.

Thomas Weber further mentioned that the upcoming Mercedes electric vehicles will feature a new and updated battery technology, which will extend range up to 440 miles. Daimler will also render additional powertrain customizations and higher range for those willing to pay more.

Among the Mercedes electric models, one of the vehicles will most likely be similar to the Generation EQ concept, which was recently unveiled by the automaker at the 2016 Paris Auto Show. Also, an electric sedan will join the line-up, which will compete with the Tesla Model S. Most of the Mercedes electric models will ride on the same platform, helping the company in saving costs.
