A few months ago, we got to know about the German automaker working on a Mercedes AMG hypercar, reportedly featuring a mid-engine layout. And finally at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the AMG’s CEO, Tobias Moers, gave some important details regarding the Mercedes AMG hypercar.
He said the main goal of the AMG hypercar is to offer outstanding performance while ensuring maximum fuel efficiency. The automaker will work toward keeping the hypercar’s thermal efficiency at 40 percent, which is not very impressive when compared to the existing hybrid cars such as the Toyota Prius and Hyundai Ionic. However, the difference is that these hybrids carry a fairly smaller engine, whereas the AMG hypercar will be equipped with a 1.6L V6 engine paired with a hybrid system, which will generate up to 1,000 horsepower.
Although, the AMG hypercar is a Formula 1 racecar, it will be street legal as well. All the components will be similar to an F1 racecar such as an electric turbo, electric motors, gasoline engine and even the battery.
Mercedes will build the AMG hypercar in limited numbers and the starting price will be around $2 million.
