The Guangzhou Auto Show 2016 saw the debut of BMW 1-Series sedan. The smallest in the line-up, it was first unveiled in July.

The 1-Series is being manufactured by BMW and the local automaker Briliance and will only be accessible in China. This is the fifth vehicle launched under the joint supervision of BMW and Briliance. The seeming competition of this new addition encompasses the Acura ILX, Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA. The drive incorporates the front-wheel-drive platform popularly known as the UKL, which was also employed in the X1 and 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer models.

The BMW 1-Series is accessible in three engine options with the base 118i housing a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine good for 136-horsepower. The mid-level 120i retains a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit generating 192-hp. The range-topping 125i carries a turbocharged 2.0-liter mill churning out 231-hp. The base model comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 8-speed automatic is also a part of the package.

The interior remains the conventional BMW kind. The BMW 1-Series will be available for a take home in China only, and is scheduled for somewhere in the first half of 2017.
