Contrary to the popular belief, women drive better than men, according to a recent study. In 2015, men were responsible for 9 out of 10 road accidents in Dubai. We got this information from the Dubai Police statistics on accidents of 2015. The data did not include minor accident cases.
Driving under influence, shifting lanes without signalling, driving too close to the vehicle ahead and an error in judgement are among the most common causes of road accidents.
The statistics also reveal young drivers committed more accidents. 9 percent of the total accidents were caused by drivers aged above 50 years while people between 21 to 29 years of age were responsible for 37 percent of road accidents.
According to the head of group retail and executive vice-president MENA at Qatar Insurance, Frederik Bisbjerg, most accidents were a result of lack of experience. He urged the authorities to address this issue.
Furthermore, 55 percent of reported accidents took place at night while a shocking 65 percent of the incidents happened on Thursdays.
