The 7th gen BMW 5-Series has been officially revealed, which will go on sale in February 2017 and would come as 2018 model year.
The new sports sedan seems to be a more evolved version of the existing model. BMW has made mild changes in its exterior which encompass more expansive kidney grilles as available in the 7-series and ‘full-width’ headlights. Moreover, it is a bit more spacious as it’s marginally bigger in all dimensions.
The body is made of aluminum, magnesium and high-strength steels, which make it up to 100kg lighter than its predecessor, claims BMW.
The interior comes with a few technical updates like the 7-series’ gesture control system and an iDrive controller for HD 10’ infotainment screen. Also new in the 5-series is the massage feature installed for the front seats to give driver and the front passenger a rich and comfortable experience.
The 7th gen BMW 5-series line-up starts with the 530i, which has a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 249bhp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It takes about 5.8 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph.
The 540i, the flagship model for BMW 5 Series, comes with a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine yielding 335bhp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The 540i can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.7 seconds.
The xDrive all-wheel drive will be offered as an option for the 530i, 540i, 520d and 530d, and would come as standard on the M550i. The new 2018 BMW 5 series also features an improved cruise control system and revised suspension.
The price for the 2018 BMW 5-series will be announced next year, prior to its release.
