Automotive News reports that Volkswagen will reveal the new seven-seat Atlas in Santa Monica, California on October 27. When compared to other VW SUVs Touareg and Tiguan, the Volkswagen Atlas is definitely an easier-to-pronounce name.

Volkswagen Atlas will be based on VW’s CrossBlue concept. It was previously speculated that the production model would be named VW Teramont, but VW chose Atlas, which they trademarked in the U.S earlier this year.

A Volkswagen spokesperson said that the company doesn’t comment on media speculation and wouldn’t confirm the name.

Volkswagen’s new three-row seven-seat crossover Atlas will most likely have Front-Wheel Drive layout with optional All-Wheel Drive. There is still no official word on powertrain, price and other specs. However, the concept car was powered by a 2.0 litre diesel engine generating 187 bhp and two electric motors that yield additional 168 bhp.

How well it would contest against the other Crossover SUVs will only be known when it is released later this month.

The Atlas is going to be built in Chattanooga, TN, U.S. Following the launch of Atlas, a newer model of VW Tiguan will be released around mid-2017.

Volkswagen has not yet released any information regarding the launch of Atlas Crossover SUV in the UAE yet.
