The new Volkswagen I.D concept car debuted yesterday at the Paris Motor Show. The automaker had already revealed a few images which gave us a good idea about how this all-electric vehicle will look like.
The Volkswagen I.D concept car is the first vehicle by Volkswagen to adopt the new modular design for electric vehicles known as ‘MEB’. The MEB platform offers an increased wheelbase, which means the I.D concept will feature a large interior space. It has a range of up to 373 miles and will launch by 2020 alongside the new VW Golf.
Talking about the interior, the I.D concept extends a large HD display on the front dash, haptic feedback and of course, gesture controls.
The I.D concept car also gives a glimpse of automaker’s autonomous driving technology, which would be found in other Volkswagen vehicles too by 2025.
After the diesel emission scandal, the automaker decided to change its game plan by ditching diesel vehicles and investing in electric and hybrid vehicles. It plans to release 30 new electric and hybrid cars by the next decade and the Volkswagen I.D concept car is one of them.
