The web is abuzz with spy shots of the 2019 Toyota Supra prototype seen near the vicinity of BMW M Test Centre at Nurburgring. The long-awaited sports car is the result of a partnership between BMW and Toyota, initially announced in 2011.

The 2019 Toyota Supra prototype borrows a number of features from the 2014 FT-1 concept car including the protruding nose, jet fighter style glasshouse, aggressive rear fenders and ducktail trunk lid.

Toyota has yet to confirm the name for its sports car, but it has trademarked the name in Europe. It is expected to debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show and will probably arrive at showrooms by 2018 as a 2019 model. Production will take place at the Magna Steyr’s plant located in Graz, Austria.

With the production date quite far off, there is little known about what’s under the hood of the 2019 Toyota Supra prototype. The low hood and rood suggest a front-midship layout and low centre of gravity. The carbon fibre is likely to be used heavily in the exterior to keep the weight low while maintaining tensile strength.

Rumours have it that the multiple powertrains of the 2019 Toyota Supra will include a twin-turbo charged V6 combined with an electric motor, with the former powering the rear wheels and the latter driving the front. This configuration has been used by Toyota previously in the 2013 Hybrid-R concept.
