Finally, the Bugatti Chiron top speed has been revealed. According to Willi Netuschil, engineering boss for Bugatti, it can go as fast as 285 mph with speed limiter removed.

The Bugatti Chiron was designed from the ground up to be a step ahead of its predecessor, the acclaimed Veyron. It is no wonder that the supercar is capable of breaking the current land speed Guinness record for a production car (269.86 mph) set in 2010 by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

At present, the Bugatti Chiron top speed has been limited to 261 mph in the interest of driver’s safety. Without the limiter, the supercar is capable of achieving 285 mph. Bugatti plans to provide customers an option to remove the speed limiter, however, drivers need to beware of the distance involved in going up to the top speed and then decelerate from such a high speed.

Bugatti does not have plans for testing the Chiron’s top speed till 2018. Netuschil claims there are very few locations with the long stretch required for the test drive.

The Bugatti Chiron is powered by a quad-turbocharged 8.0 litre W-16 engine (1,480 hp) coupled with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The supercar takes under 2.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h speed.

The total production run of the Chiron is limited to 500 and deliveries are expected to start in fall this year.
