Ellena Autotrasformazioni, the Italian coachbuilder has built a Maserati Hearse based on the luxury sedan Maserati Ghibli.
The transformation of popular luxury cars to large size wagons is a surprisingly common feat. Previously, Touring Superleggera built a wagon based on the 2009 Maserati Touring Bellagio Fastback. Ellena Autotrasformazioni has also previously built luxury funeral cars based on the Mercedes Benz E-Class and Vito van.
The front of the Maserati Hearse looks like a regular Ghibli. The roof line extends to provide more headroom and arches up to meet the fibreglass rear section. The rear section has also been repositioned, so that the vehicle can support the weight of an 8 feet coffin. This takes the total length of the car to 6.62 metres, about 3 feet longer than a Chevy suburban.
The backside has an extended bumper, quad tailpipes and the same taillights as a regular Maserati Ghibli. The interior is suitably luxurious – as befits a funeral car based on an Italian sports car. The chrome trim and leather are prominently visible. There is even a removable crucifix.
Powered by a 3.0 litre turbo-diesel V6 engine, the funeral hearse promises to provide a luxurious last ride.
