Over a 100 participants have joined the Build Earth Live contest to be held in September in Dubai. The contest is being organised by the Dubai Future Foundation, as part of its Future Partnership program.

Included in the contest is a project for designing a hyperloop to reduce the travel time between Fujairah and Dubai by 10 minutes. The current travel time is about 2 hours. The Build Earth Live contest will take place over 48 hours, and 6 teams will reach the final to explain their projects in details.

The hyperloop technology was made patent-free by Tesla CEO Elon Musk who envisions hyperloops to be a major player in future transportation technology. A hyperloop consists of a low-pressure pipe between two stations within which passenger capsules can travel at speeds of up to 1,200 km per hour.

The worldwide event is being staged to encourage global participation in smart solutions for the betterment of humanity. The transportation solutions are of relevance, because they affect people’s daily lives and the rapid developments in the transportation industry, such as, self driving cars require a strategic change in transportation planning.

According to RTA Dubai, the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy is aiming to focus future development in accordance with autonomous driving requirements. RTA has already started trials for a smart vehicle that can accommodate up to 10 passengers.
