The Bugatti new model line will include a high end luxury sedan based on the Galibier concept car along with 3 other models which are yet to be revealed. It was disclosed by Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer. The new model line is apparently a part of a long term strategy with the objective of achieving financial independency from the parent group, Volkswagen, following the emissions scandal which has left VW struggling.
Out of the four proposals for the Bugatti new model line, the only confirmed car is the Galibier. The production version of the Galibier is likely to be very close to the original car (unlike the Chiron) and will feature a mid-front engine layout. Pricing will be comparable to the two-seat Chiron, which is expected to go on sale in early 2017 at approximately $3.5 million.
The original plans for the Galibier hatched after approval in 2011 and the four seater sedan was set for a production run of 3,000 cars over eight years. According to Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durnheimer, some of the technological ideas that made up the Galibier concept car have yet to be used by any other automaker. Production plans for the Galibier were abandoned in 2013 when Durheimer left the French automaker to work for Audi.
It is likely that production of the Galibier will start after the Chiron has run its course.
