Elon Musk can be easily classified as a visionary and a great strategist for Tesla Motors. Back in 2006, he unveiled Tesla Master Plan laying out a road map towards the future. Since the company has achieved many of its targets in the last decade or so, Musk has chalked out future path for the automotive manufacturer through part 2 of the Tesla master plan.
The original plan thrust the company onto a path towards evolution from the roadsters to the cars like Model 3 and Model S. Now the company is planning to add diversity to the production fleet by introducing a pickup truck as well as a compact SUV. Not surprisingly, the autonomous car technology is part of the future action plan for the company despite some recent hiccups. Addressing these, the CEO stood by the technology reassuring customers that it is safer than people driving all by themselves and reiterated his commitment to carry the technology forward.
A heavy duty cargo truck named ‘Tesla Semi’ and a bus are in the works for their 2017 release by the company. Both will likely be equipped with semi autonomous driving technology giving bus driver ample opportunity to interact with passengers in a fun way.
Another important aspect of the new Tesla Master Plan is the focus of the company on nontraditional electric power. The acquisition of the SolarCity will enable Tesla to integrate the solar energy supply for individual customers. Tesla’s Powerball will be storing the energy generated by the solar panels for subsequent use.
Tesla has its eyes fixed on owning a future autonomous car sharing fleet that can enable customers to order an autonomous ride and utilize it as per their convenience. However, it remains to be seen whether the company will overcome its current hurdle to achieve the ambitious future projections.
